How do you teach addition?
You can begin to teach your child addition when they can recognize and understand numbers. They will first learn how to count and skip count by two’s, five’s, and tens. Teach your child the easiest addition facts before moving on to more difficult equations. 0’s, 1’s, and 2’s are an excellent place to start. Have your child become familiar with an addition chart as they are learning to skip count and use this as a tool to help them solve addition problems. Create an environment free of distractions and use flashcards to reinforce the facts that students have already mastered. Games are another great way to reinforce learning. Games played with dice cards and everyday objects at home can make math practice fun and engaging for your child.
