Who invented division?

Many ancient cultures used advanced mathematical concepts. The first use of the division symbol ÷ came from the Swiss mathematician John Rahn in his book,Teutsche Algebra. This is the symbol used on our calculators today and is popular in both Britain and the United States. The oblique bar / has been used since 1845 and is still used by many mathematicians today as a symbol of division.
