How do you teach sight words at home?

Sight words are learned by frequent exposure and through direct teaching to the learner. It is important to introduce a few new words at a time (1-3), so the beginner reader does not feel overwhelmed and maintains interest/ motivation to learn. Having the words written on paper or underlined in text helps the learner to focus on the particular word(s). The learner can underline the word with their finger as they read it from left to right, spell the letters out loud and then say the word, write the word in the air or on paper, etc.─all with adult guidance.
