How do you explain 2d shapes to kindergarten?

Understanding shapes is an important milestone for your child as they are learning to categorize things around them.  Help to make learning shapes fun and engaging by using all of their senses.  Show them a flash card and ask them to repeat the name of the shape.  Help them trace the shape on the card with their finger. Most shapes have sides and corners, point to each side and each corner as you and your child count together.  Reinforce the flash card practice by helping your child find an object around them that matches the shape they are learning.  Give your child lots of praise and have patience as they are learning these important concepts.
