What is the easiest way to teach subtraction?
Begin to teach subtraction by helping your child use objects and charts to represent subtraction problems. Practice with your child daily, beginning with reviewing all of the subtraction facts with the same minuends. Once students have learned a subtraction fact such as 8 – 5 = 3, show them how 3 + 5 = 8 in this fact family. Students can play subtraction games by rolling dice and subtracting the two numbers or playing subtraction “war” with a deck of cards. Games can help engage your child and make daily math practice fun.
